

Gladys Freedman Albert, 99, of S. Miami, Fl passed away on March 8, 2013. She was born in Bronx, NY on March 2, 1914. Raised in Brooklyn ,she attended CCNY and thereafter entered the business world. She married Sam Berg in 1939, and was widowed in 1963.She married Bernard Albert in 1964, and was again widowed in 1977.During WWII, she accompanied Sam Berg to various Army bases as a civilian employee of the Army. Post- war, she was a suburban house wife in NJ, becoming an excellent baker. Moved to Florida in 1951, reentered business as a partner with Sam Berg at Martin’s Boys’ & Men’s Wear thru 1963. Thereafter, she worked with Bernard Albert in his business, Junior Shoe-Craft. Upon Bernard’s death , she continued to work as a saleswoman for her nephew Robert Smith and as a bookkeeper for her son , Martin Berg &stepson Donald Albert. She also remained active socially, driving friends for their weekly dinners together. All her life, she gave wise counsel to her husbands and sons. Her sound advice was sought by many others as well.
She is survived by loving son, Martin Berg and his wife Linda; grandchildren, Elizabeth Albert, Jennifer Albert & Rhonda Candreva; great grandchildren Nicholas Albert & Veronica Candreva; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by siblings, Muriel Smith, Max Freedman & Sidney Freedman
In lieu of flowers , the family suggests donations to the Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Parkinson’s Disease Research.
