Jean M. Rubin of Satellite Beach, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the age of 78. It was a life well lived. The Orange Blossom Beauty Queen and Cypress Gardens water skier from the cotton fields of Tuscaloosa, Alabama always laughed and loved much. Together with her husband of 56 years, Albert, they blazed a trail across the U.S. from Washington to Virginia before landing in Brevard County, Florida. There, Jean worked as a real estate agent and made a home for over 50 years raising three sons.
The auburn haired beauty served as a Boy Scout den mother and a party hostess to friends and family, while Al was helping create a space program. Eager to make her mark in the community, Jean was an active part of the real estate industry in the Melbourne, Florida area for decades. Before retiring, Jean was an office manager at the National Realty Office in Sun Tree Melbourne, Florida. Jean also served on the Melbourne Area Board of Realtors in various leadership positions, helping to increase the standing and presence of the real estate industry in Brevard County. Jean's favorite role was walking the halls of the Florida Legislature and the U.S. Congress as the key contact on real estate issues for her friend Congressman Bill Posey. Jean retired from these passions recently, but the policy she helped craft and the friends she made during these travels never left her heart.
Jean would be the first to tell you that her true legacy was her family. A phrase starting with my sons or my grandchildren was never far from her lips when talking with friends or complete strangers. Jean is survived and missed by her husband Albert, her sons Eric, Steven and Michael, her daughters-in laws Kimberly, Dora, and Brenda, and her six grandchildren Sara, Jacob, Sean, Garret, Richard and Philip. Jean also is remembered by her brothers Walter and Larry Mims and sisters Lillian Foster and Sue Walker.
Services will be held on Sunday, January 5th at 10:30 am at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave., Miami, Fl 33143. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Friends of Cancer Research, www.focr.org.
