Lisa Millhauser, a devoted wife, second to none mother, expert friend-maker and lover of life, passed away at age 60 on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at her home after a thirteen year battle with breast cancer.
Not even the greatest struggle could take away Lisa’s positive spin on life and the sparkle in her eyes. She was iron-willed and confident, but humble as can be. She lived life on her own watch and when it came to being there for her family & friends, there was no surrender.
Lisa was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and grew up spending many weekends on the beach with her parents, Terri and Joe, and sister, Karen. She attended Nova High School until she went to Tulane University for college, spending her Junior year abroad at University of Southampton in the UK.
She followed to graduate from UM Law School in 1981 and began a career practicing commercial litigation. In that same year, she married Howard Millhauser with whom she shared the rest of her life. They adopted two children, Sarah and Rachel, and together, the four of them were more than a family, they were a team.
Mitzvah-doing was the heart and soul of the Millhauser household. Lisa was active in Temple Bet Breira and then Temple Beth Am where both of her daughters went to primary and elementary school. She was also active in The Women’s Division of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
While her full focus was on being a mom, Lisa later began a full-time mediation and arbitration practice which included starting Divorce Without War with two of her best friends.
She did not long for anything material. Instead, she found the most joy in experiences: theater, music, travel and most importantly, food. She filled her life with the best of those things.
Even in her last days, she expressed feeling blessed. Her infectious smile, warm embrace and wise words will be tremendously missed, but her love will always be felt.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth Am of Miami, 5950 N Kendall Dr, Miami, FL 33156, Sunday, September 3 at 1pm.
Interment to follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery, 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
Arrangements under the direction of Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), Miami, FL.
