Lou was born on November 9, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the beloved son of Benjamin and Frances Glass Teich. After growing up in Philadelphia and graduating from Central High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Temple University. Following his graduation in 1952, he proudly entered the Army to serve his country during the Korean conflict.
He received a furlough from the Army to marry his childhood sweetheart Ruth “Ruthie” Rudolph on February 21, 1953. During his time in the service, Lou was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, and he was honorably discharged on October 27, 1954.
Lou began his career as an accountant in the Auditing Department of Lit Brothers’ Department Store in Philadelphia. Ever the family man, he moved his family to South Florida in March 1961 to assist his father with their small family-run hardware store. Lou utilized his accounting background to establish a robust system for the business, which he successfully expanded into the well-known “Surfside True Value Hardware” on Harding Avenue in Surfside, Florida.
Upon his retirement in 2002, Lou and Ruth spent their time traveling and cherishing moments with their children, Genise (Ori) Blum and Scott (Debby) Teich. Lou was a devoted grandfather who deeply loved his grandchildren: Alex and Ethan Blum, and Jason (Raquel) and Evan Teich. An only child and a devoted widower (Ruth predeceased him in 2020), Lou leaves behind a lasting legacy through his children, grandchildren, and many cousins.
