Dr. Maurice (“Moe”) Blinski, (Capt. U.S. Army Air Corp – Retired), of Tamarac, FL, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2013 surrounded by his family, just short of his 96th birth date of August the 16th. A resident of South Florida for more than 65 years, Moe leaves a remarkable legacy to his community and especially all that knew and loved him.
A first-generation American, as well as the first of six siblings to attend college, Moe received his Medical Degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. Shortly after graduation he joined his brothers Leo and Max by enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. He served as a flight surgeon in the USAAC over the Burma Hump, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain.
After completing his military service, Moe became one of the first certified pediatric cardiologists in the State of Florida. He helped build the National Children’s Cardiac Hospital in Miami where he was a member of the first surgical team to perform a new procedure called "cardiac catheterization", just one of his numerous accolades. He continued to serve the South Florida community as a highly respected pediatrician for more than 50 years. He affectionately earned the nickname of the “Shot Doctor” from his patients who continued to adore him well into their adulthood and after his retirement. As he did throughout his life, Moe spent his retirement years enjoying time with his family as well as his extended family and friends; traveling frequently to attend weddings, bar mitzvahs and other simchas; just enjoying his life to the fullest.
Predeceased by Anita, his beloved wife of 60 years, as well as his siblings Ida, Esther, Leo, Max and Betty, Moe is survived by his three loving children, Dr. Darryl (Hope), of Miami, FL; Wendi of Hollywood, FL; and Jeff of Miami, FL; grandsons Dr. Alexander Blinski of New York, N.Y. and Spencer Blinski of New York, N.Y.; numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, great-grand nephews and great-grand nieces, cousins and other family members and friends, all of whom will forever cherish their memories of him.
Services will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 @ 11:00 AM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 5900 SW 77 Avenue, Miami Fl, 33143 with internment to follow at Mt Nebo Kendall, (same location). In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
Immediately following interment, shiva will begin in the Miami area and resuming on Monday 5-8 in Tamarac. Contact the Blinski family for exact information at (305)776-3308 or (305)308-5736.
