

Robert "Bob" Marcus, born December 5, 1922, New York City, New York, died Wednesday, September 1, 2011. He came to Miami Beach in 1937 and graduated from Miami Beach High, where he was a star football player. He attended the University of Florida until he joined the US Air Force to fight in WW II. After the war, he finished his education at the University of Miami, where he met his wife of 64 years, Rita Marcus. In the 1950's Bob and his brother, Alan Marcus, founded Marcus Brothers, a manufacturer and wholesaler of ladies handbags and accessories sold to retailers around the U.S. He ran the company until his retirement in 1990. Bob was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved to learn and teach others. Not a day went by that he wasn't researching or exploring something new. He and his wife Rita traveled the world throughout their lives. During retirement he continued his education at the University of Miami Institute for Retired Persons and developed an active interest in the world of computers. He had a zest for life and his motto was 'smell the roses along the way." He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife, Rita Marcus, his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Marty Genauer, his granddaughter, Stefanie Genauer, and his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Leila Marcus. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 SW 77th Ave., Miami, FL 33143.
