Missing Ruben today. It has been 5 years. He was such a great friend. I have his die cast cars in the office and think of him often. I now drive a Porsche so he would be proud. He would probably walk around it every time he rode with me to check for dings or scratches.

Dear Rubin. I am going to miss you and max both. But I know you are together now !  My prayers for healing for my sweet riley and Renee  ! You were a wonderful friend and a better dog dad.  You will both be missed terribly 🌴

Ruben was an amazing person, a great attorney but overall a wonderful human being. I met him in 2011 when he started his solo practice and worked on several commercial and residential real estate deals for several of my clients over the past decade. Not only was he an attentive professional he had also an uncanny sense of humor which instantly helped break the ice at any closings. 

Over last summer he helped me and my newly wedded wife close on our first property in Miami Florida. He kept us sane during the due diligence period and brought us the much needed legal re-assurance as this was probably the craziest case we had both worked on in our careers.  We shared the love of dogs and cars and often talked about our respective families.  

We had planned a boating trip this Spring and had spoken a few weeks back in January when he started to feel unwell. He remained very positive.

You were a true friend and will be missed greatly.  Baruch Dayan ha'emet,

I met Ruben when he interviewed at Tropical Shipping in April 1998, we became friends and he, my husband Galon and I spent a lot of time together and lots of holidays.  He handled our closing when we bought our house in Jupiter in 1999 and his firm represented us as the closing agent on the same house when we sold it in 2018.  
Ruben was an accomplished attorney and passionate about everything he was involved in.  We moved to North Florida this past year and talked on the phone often, we are going to miss his wit and his friendship as you could always depend on Ruben at a moment's notice.  He was a great friend and left us way too young.  We will always love you Ruben, your humor, your friendship, your compassion during our family crisis that you always stepped in to help us with your legal advice and seemed to find a way to resolve the issues without too much conflict as you knew Galon was excitable and at times a hot head!!  We will miss our lunches across your office at La Bamba while you cooled Galon’s jets!!
We always appreciated your unselfishness letting us try out your new prized possession (Tesla and all your fancy cars) so we could enjoy them as much as you did.  We love you and will never forget you as you were a treasured part of our family.  Rest in Peace my friend!

It feels especially fitting because after reading all of these messages from your dearest friends and family, it’s clear that while your life was cut too short, you’ve created memories with people that will live on for many years to come.

I cant believe im sitting here writing this.  You were taken too soon.  I have so many wonderful memories growing up with you.  I will never forget my first and last motorcycle ride with you (still cant believe my mom let me on the back), Indy 500, you turning the water off when I was in the shower bc I was taking to long, all of the family dinners together, when you lived with us and much more.  I know you are with Aunt Genya, Uncle Otto, Bubbi and Zayde now pain free.  You will always be in our hearts and wonderful memories.  I love you

Miss you

Mourning the loss of my close friend today. I meet Ruben Spinrad in 2006 when I started work at Tropical Shipping. During my time there, Ruben and our friend Larry made up our lunch bunch nicknamed the "Cholesterol Trio". Many great memories and fun times. I usually drove, Ruben shotgun and Larry in the backseat. Ruben had a routine of checking my car for new scratches every day. We would rotate on who paid for lunch. Our friend Larry passed away almost 5 years ago.

I will cherish my time with Ruben in February and March when I visited this year. He was in a lot of pain, but we ate good, watched lots of TV and just spent time with each other. Saying goodbye before I left on March 17th was rough – we both sensed it was our final goodbye. He squeezed by arm and with tears we told each other how much we loved each other.

Ruben was more than a close friend; he was like a brother to me and I will miss him.

Going to miss you Ruben. More than just a trusted lawyer but a friend as well.  

Will always remember you.

Ruben we go back 51 years and I do not know where it went  From almost ROTC to almost AARP.  I cannot believe I am writing this with tears in my eyes, and shaking hands. We were all robed! We always said that we could not pick our family, but we could pick our friends, and our friends became our family.  We picked well! We had some fun my old friend, and you will never be forgotten!

Besides being family you are one of my fathers oldest friends of over 50 years. You were his best man in his wedding. Since I was tiny I always looked up to you like you were my uncle. As a little kid I remember you came to live with us in our small house on 178th street. I remember you exploded a 2liter bottle of Coke in our freezer. Always being there for family holidays. I remember your brown 280zx, red corvettes, your blue Porsche convertible. I remember in Indiana your Harley, Green explorer and you shutting off the water to Shayna because her showers were too long. Until 7 years ago we hadn’t talked too much because I was a teenager and then started a family. I was so excited I got a job out of Sarasota because now I would get to see you. I drove every few weeks across to see you. Those were some of the greatest times we had. Just being with you again. You never made me feel like anything but your little buddy… The last week in December this past I will cherish until the day we meet again. We didn’t do anything fancy or drive the cars or go out on the boat… we became friends. We Walked your walk. We walked on the beach. We watched car movies. We sat in the hot tub. The whole time we just talked. I promised you that you would not leave us alone, and while I couldn’t be next to you, I was  right outside in the parking lot as you did. I will always miss you. You helped make me the man I am today. love you 

The picture below was just after he brought the Austin home. He was leaving the car at the condo on Singer Island. We had gone out for a few hours and as we  were pulling up to the gate we asked the guard to take a picture for us. I could not stop laughing because he was saying that we should raise our hands and say “ Yo what’s up”. He was so funny. 

Went to Ruben as a care giver ,Ruben you were so seek nice to welcome me and made me confortable, after a while we became too best friend . You where very seek ,nervous, anxiety , confuses, you had some good and bad days, but you remember every morning to say ( pardon me if I say something wrong you understand my situation) you made some improvements worked round the house with your worker you spent sometimes in the patio .
Your beloved companion did the best to provide you everything we needed for your care , You went down solely no breath no energy no appetite, unfortunately God decided to take to your eternal home.
Rénette words seems inadequate to express the sorry felt by the loss of Ruben .My heart is with you

Ruben, you were one of the kindest and most generous persons we've ever met. We will always remember the moments spent together every time you came to Uruguay to visit us. I barely remember when I was a child and you came to Uruguay, we were always so happy to see you and you were so happy to be here.
Anita and Simon loved you so much... I am sure you could feel it. I am also sure you are together now.

Ruben, it is so sad it had to be this way. Natalia, our children and I are going to miss you. You will be always in our hearts.


I am one of the lucky people who had the privilege of having Ruben as a friend. Ruben had a remarkable way of touching people and making them his friend. He was always considerate, impassioned and ready to help if someone needed assistance, legal advice or any other type of help.
Our friendship became closer when we began walking together. We started with one to two miles, then increased to four to five miles a day. Our walking speed also increased because he liked to walk fast. He was so energetic and untiring that I called him the “energizer bunny”. When we got up to 6 miles of fast-pace walking, I had to stop due to foot problems, but Ruben continued and increased his mileage to seven, then ten miles a day, sometimes twice a day. The walking changed his appearance so quickly, that I almost did not recognize him if I saw him on our walking trail. He was almost fanatical with his walking and kept walking until last December 2019. 
Ruben was passionate about collecting antique cars and enjoyed maintaining and driving them almost every Saturday. He kept them all spotless. Having driven with him on some of the rides, I noticed that he really enjoyed driving them fast. I sensed that speed made him happy.
Sundays were our main boating day. We spent most of the day on the water and had a lunch break at one of our favorite restaurants along the inter coastal. He again enjoyed pushing the boat’s engines to full capacity and calling my attention to the speedometer with a big smile on his face because we were at top speed.
Like all of Ruben’s other friends, I personally feel a great loss. I know my family and I will miss him very much. He was a great friend and a great person.  It was fun to be in his company. With his nonstop sense of humor, he always made us laugh, smile and enjoy being with him. 
Be at peace my dear friend.


I am Heartbroken to hear about this right now! Ruben and I were friends for many years unbenokwns to many.We laughed together and cried together spent endless hours on the phone  lifting each other up in times of need.

I started writing this tonight, and I found out so much wonderful memories about Ruben. It was grateful for knowing you and being one of your close friends. I am the lucky person to having you, and you were the one of the most important people in my life. He was more like my older brother. We had many experiences. We laughed, we cried, we fought, and laughed again. 
Without you, I could not learn how to grill the ribs and steak, then enjoyed them on a weekend evening. Without you, I could not imagine who would be the best person to marry us. Without you, I could not be in this country. You had been protecting and supporting me as your younger brother.  
I know you are in a better place now, without illness and pain, but I still miss you terribly. I want you to know my friend, that I love you with all my heart and that I always remember you. You will always be my friendly friend!

Martin and I meet Ruben after a big accident   That same day Renne and him hired me to clean the house. Since the same day they make feel like family!  Is no way I can thank you enough Ruben for helping Us thru the hardest time of our life!!  We became friends and without knowing I got to Love the Grumpy man !!  Let me tell you why the pictures of the kids! One night late probably around 11 He call me and it was out of breath , I got really scared and asked what happened ???  Somehow , chasing something max fell in the canal and of course Ruben jump in it and save Max  He was so scare but happy because He save his boy!!   Rubén I love you so much  ! I’m going to miss you a lot. But I’m at peace that you are no longer in pain!! See you soon!! 

There is so much wonderful things I can say about Ruben, but I’ll start by saying, if you had the privilege of knowing Ruben, you are one of the lucky persons whose life was touched by an outstanding and honorable man that I’ve came to know. We called him “Mr. Perfection” (a joke we shared amongst friends) mostly because everything he got involve with had to be perfect. His cars, his boat etc.... They all had to be in a perfect condition. If there was so much as a minor tiny scratch on the paint, right away Ruben would spring into action trying everything to get rid of it. Sanding, buffing etc... Not only did he do this for himself, he did the same to my cars over the years. He would Say, “hey Dino there is scratch on your door let me try to buff it out”. He was a genuine friend and fun to be around. The dry humor he had would have me laughing uncontrollably. 
Mr. Perfection, as I write this, the tears are rolling down my face. I sure am gonna miss you! Especially as I think of our daily walks, our conversations and the brotherly love we shared between one another.
Oh how I wish I could meet you at La bamba for lunch tomorrow! Or maybe we can cook Rib-eyes medium-rear just the way you like it with a Diet Coke. I’m missing you already big fella. I can’t come to grips with knowing you are gone, but I find comfort in knowing you are at peace, although it hurts so bad not having you here.

Ruben and I had a passion for collecting automobiles and boating. We attended many auctions and car shows and went boating numerous times throughout the years. He’s been a great friend and lawyer.  Anyone lucky enough to be his friend knew what a great guy he is...He will be missed...

It’s so difficult to even begin to write the memories, there are just so many.  From hanging out in his back yard by the pool, grilling out at his place,  working on the warehouse with his cars, and when he and Renee generously let me stay at his house for a month and a half while I was seeking my new place to live.  Ruben had an incredible soul, and had not just always been there for advice and guidance personally; but he also had a profound influence on my son.  Ruben allowed my son Hunter to be an intern at his law practice during his senior year of high school.  Hunter enjoyed getting to know Ruben and learning from him.  Hunter even hoped to work for Ruben when he finishes Law School.  Rest In Peace Ruben.  The world lost an incredible soul and you will be missed.
