Timothy Thomas Dorr was born in Chicago on March 22, 1951. When he was four, his father, a physician, took a job at Tampa General Hospital, at which time the family relocated to Florida. Tim excelled as a swimmer in high school. After graduating, he went to North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where he swam during his freshman year. In his sophomore year, he transferred to the University of Florida, where he earned a degree in chemistry.
While a senior in Gainesville, he & Debra met, and began dating soon thereafter. Rather than return to Tampa after graduating from UF, he moved to Miami to be with Debra. They married on April 6, 1975.
Not long after moving to Miami, Debra’s father, Marvin, hired Tim at General Sales, the small business Marvin created. In two decades of working together, they never had an argument, and they grew to adore one another. Marvin was eventually able to retire, safe in the knowledge that he was leaving the business in Tim’s capable hands.
In 1980, Sam arrived, followed by Jeffrey in 1983. His sons were the light of Tim’s life, and he delighted in being a warm, loving, supportive father. His boys always knew that he loved them; he was not stingy about saying so. He made sure they knew he was proud of Jeffrey’s career in medicine, and of Sam’s in politics. Sam & Jeffrey are forever grateful to have benefited from Tim’s wisdom, guidance, and affection.
Tim was a testament to modern science and medicine. His cardiac journey spanned more than four decades, including three major surgeries. His health had declined steadily in recent years, but he remained a fighter until the end. He stayed with us long enough to help welcome into the family Jeffrey’s wonderful wife, Chikako. Two years ago, Jeffrey & Chikako brought their daughter, Airi, into the world, giving Tim the all-too-brief opportunity to experience being Airi’s “Poppy.” A cat lover, Tim loved Moogie & Toshi.
Tim leaves behind his loving, devoted wife of 51 years, Debra, along with their sons, Sam & Jeffrey, daughter-in-law, Chikako, and granddaughter, Airi. He is additionally survived by his sister, Laurel, and his mother, Nancy, age 103, as well as his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Mayita & Marc. His family will miss him more than words can describe but will be eternally grateful for their time with him.
A Funeral Service will be held at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143, US, on April 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm followed by a Graveside Service at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143, US, on April 28, 2026.
