On August 3, 2024, Carmen Sofia Menendez, age 94 passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her. Carmen is survived by her three children (Alfredo, Augusto, and Ernesto) and six grandchildren (Giorgio, Michael, Tiffany, Erica, Alyssa, and Vanda Sofia). Carmen was born in Cienega, Colombia in 1930. From there she moved to Barranquilla where she worked at Lumiton Paint as an administrative assistant. In 1968, she emigrated to the US and to Miami. She went on to live and raise a wonderful family in Louisiana (Amite, Gretna, Avondale) and the paradise then known as the Panama Canal Zone (Coco Solo, Gamboa, Diablo Hts). Afterwards, she spent a couple of years in Tampa before landing in Jacksonville in 1999. In addition to her immediate family, Carmen was loved by many close relatives and friends. Carmen was a very religious person, loved church life, and was a member of the Nueva Esperanza Presbyterian church. While the church no longer exists, it's members continue to gather and worship at the Normandy Park Baptist Church.
