JoAnn lost her father while a teenager, and being the 3rd of 9 children, quickly took on the role of helping her mother raise the younger children and support the family with jobs at an early age. Upon HS graduation she moved to CA and worked at HP computers on the first Supercomputer. She later returned to ME, married Bud, and as he worked for hospitals in the food service, she ran their endeavors in several restaurants as well as raising their two sons. She loved a fast car and convertibles, and Bud always ensured they had one, her favorite, a 69 Mustang convertible. She had a "heavy foot" as she would always chide. Loved to travel and even took her eldest son, David, to Europe to visit her sister Kathy's family for a month while stationed in Germany. She fully supported her youngest, Rusty, while he served in the military, and would always say gave her the "early grays" due to his travels and ventures. She doted on her grandchildren and was always there for them, for a call, or, on occasion, surprise visits, some to theme parks and sometimes riding with them. It is clear by the many heartwarming cards, calls, and social media posts that she was loved by all that were fortunate enough to have met her. She will truly be missed as JoAnn was always available for a call, regardless of how long it may be, loved to read, always offering up one she had read to anyone or just sat and visited at the family pond and property in ME during the summer visits. After her husband passed away and at the age of 87 and up, she endured a stomach obstruction and surgery, a fall, which required a new hip, COPD, and C19, which she beat over a 5-day hospital stay, all while never complaining while rehabilitating. She was a strong, classy, proud, and friendly lady that passed onto her journey gracefully up to her last breath while at rest in her home with loved ones at her side. Rest Easy Classy Lady, rest easy Mom.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nelson "Bud" Evermont Hopkins; 6 siblings: Leon, Annette, Paul, David, John and Peter. She is survived by her 2 sons: David P. Hopkins, Travis Kasierski, Keeley (Tony) Chiuppi and Sydney Kasierski; and a host of extended family and friends.
