

Walter E. Callaway, (USN Ret) born March 15, 1933, in Boston, Mass., passed away with family around him on June 26, 2015 at Orange Park Medical. He spent 30 years devoted to his country’s safety, through Korea, Viet Nam, and The Cuban Crisis. He served from 1951 to 1981 and retired as a PO. Duty Stations include California, Maine, Rhode Island, Florida, and Virginia. Throughout his life he maintained memberships in various military organizations and volunteered for community service with Meals on Wheels and Special Olympics. He is preceded in death by his father Walter L. Callaway, mother Louise Callaway, and the mother of his children Sarah Callaway. Walt leaves behind his wife Karin, one son; Dennis Callaway (Kathy) and 5 daughters; Debra Monaghan, Diane Ham (David), Donna Barnes (Greg), Cheryl Metzger (Martin), and Cynthia Hall (Vernon); two step-sons and one step-daughter, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grand-children. The family settled in Green Cove Springs. Walt served with the Clay County Sherriff’s Office, Council on Aging of Clay County and several other positions with Clay County businesses as well as Civilian Employee at NADEP-NAS Jax. He will be sorely missed by friends and family. A memorial service is scheduled for July 25th, 2015 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 310 South Oakridge Ave, Green Cove Springs, FL, with the Pastor Russell Franklin presiding.
