

Edith Marie Thomas, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Union County on Friday, the 28th of February 2014. She was born June 16th, 1936 in Hanceville, Alabama. Edith was one of nine children and the daughter of the late Earl and Irene Kretzschmar. She was 77 went she went to be with her Lord.
Edith was born and raised in Alabama, where she met her husband Ed, and where many of her family and friends still reside.
Edith and Ed have been active members of Morning Star Lutheran Church of Matthews for over 30 years. Edith enjoyed camping, sewing, gardening and going to yard sales.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ed Thomas; three children, Susan Thomas and husband, Carmen DeAndrea, Jr., of Mooresville, Tim Thomas and wife, Danielle, of Waxhaw and Terry Thomas and wife, Shelley, of Gilbert, SC. Others left to cherish her memory are nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, four sisters, one brother, and many nieces & nephews and loving friends.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM on Monday, the 3rd of March, at McEwen Funeral Service, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. The service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday the 4th of March, at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC. The committal service will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road in Charlotte. Pastor John Mouritsen of Waxhaw is officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road, Matthews NC 28105.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of Union County.
She was loved by all, forever remembered and will be greatly missed.
