Elizabeth Mcknight Steele

Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Friday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. Her funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, August 20, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Harrill officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.

Born December 31, 1919 in Mecklenburg County, NC, Mrs. Steele was a daughter of the late Samuel Walter McKnight and Rose Belle Hewitt McKnight. She was one of the first and original meter maids for the Charlotte Police Department. She also worked with Jim Crockett Promotions and the Charlotte Coliseum. Mrs. Steele was a charter member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving in the nursery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Steele in 1997, a sister, Aileen Lineberger, and two half-brothers, Coyte Hewitt and Edgar McKnight.

She is survived by her children, Jack A. Steele of Midland, Kathryn Elaine Norwood of Hoschton, GA, and Gene Steele and wife, Margaret, of Mint Hill; a sister, Kathryn McKnight Davenport of Midland; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
