Ernest Junior Thompson

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend Grant Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Bud was a lifelong member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing the Lord’s praises in the choir. He loved gospel and bluegrass music, and his time playing with the Gospel Tones. After retiring from Westinghouse Electric, he enjoyed gardening, woodwork, hunting and fishing. Bud served his country and was a proud veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ethel McCall Thompson and children: Linda Smart (Sam), Ronald Thompson (Cheryl), Shirley Burleson (John), and Kay Collins (Phil). Grandchildren include Erica Summerlin, Michael Smart (Lauren), Jessica Stevens (Clent), Laura Thompson, Stuart Collins (Joanna), Stephanie Collins, and Kathyrn Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Arlee and Emerson Stevens. Extended family members include Jody Pressley (Doug), Jason Pressley (Tiffany), and Chris Pressley.
