

His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 5, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
Born July 17, 1929 in Columbia, SC, Mr. Butler was a son of the late Harry Benjamin Butler, Sr. and Doris Lovett Butler. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and has been an active Gamecock Club member for over 40 years. Mr. Butler began his career with Pacific Mills in Columbia, SC, before moving on to Monsanto, where he retired in 1987. While at Monsanto, he received the Omar Award in 1977 and the Master Salesman Award. He was currently employed with Presbyterian Hospital, where he has worked for the last 21 years. Mr. Butler coached youth baseball for over 40 years and won multiple state and regional championships. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Vondelle W. Butler; three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his children, Sharon Spaleta of Little River, SC, Ben Butler and wife, Sherry, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Barri Sweet and husband, Rob, of Clearwater, FL, Larry Butler and wife, Teresa, of Charlotte, Tim Butler and wife, Dee, of Simpsonville, SC, Russ Butler and wife, Wanda, and Chris Butler, all of Charlotte; his brother, Mike Butler of Saluda, SC; his sister, Rosa Cox of Columbia, SC; and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
