

Joyce was born on Oct. 4, 1933, in Tifton, Georgia, to William H. and Agnes (Bruce) Green
She was a hostess and cashier at the Harrisburg Family House restaurant for four years but had worked for the owners at other restaurants for more than twenty years.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed doing things for others, especially her grandchildren. Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor with a gift of making everyone she met smile. She will be missed.
Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her friends and loved ones.
Survivors include her children: Steve Mathews and his significant other, Geri Rembert, Ft. Mill, SC, and Jimmy Mathews and his wife Robin, Harrisburg, NC, and Robert Wolfe Mathews, Charlotte; her three grandchildren: Steven, Michael, and Jennifer Mathews; and her siblings: Billy Greene (this is correct) and wife Ina, Jack Green and wife Paula; Carol Head and husband Owen; Elaine Shremp and husband Harry; Sylvia Daniel and husband Gary, all of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, James J. Mathews and Edwin Cude, two sisters, Dorothy Wolfe and Betty Pickren, and her brother Bobby Green.
Her family will receive friends from 12:30 pm. until the time of her memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the McEwen-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. The Reverend Michael Scott Knight will officiate.
