

Linda Carolyn Jarrell Barnes, 76, a resident of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2017. Linda lost her battle with cancer after a three year illness. At the time of her death, Linda was comforted by the support and love her family and friends. Linda was born on January 3, 1941 in Gaston County, N.C. to Raymond and Ann Brooks Jarrell. At the age of three, following the death of her mother, Linda moved to the Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville, North Carolina. Linda lived at Mills Home for the next fifteen years. During those fifteen years the young girls in her cottage became her Mills Home sisters. Linda spent her live being a wife, mother and friend, a Hobbyist and a Crafts person. She stayed up on current events and loved a good debate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Austin Barnes, her brothers Thomas, Samuel, Jerry, Cecil and Robert Jarrell and her sister Barbara Jarrell Crocker. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila A. Barnes of Lorton, VA and her son Randy A. Barnes of Charlotte, NC, her sister in laws Patsy Beck, Sara Ward, Kathy Stabler and Doris Jarrell, as well as many of her Mills Home sisters, nine nephews and nine nieces. A Life Remembrance Service will be held for Linda on Monday November 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill, N.C.
