Ralph Kenneth Emery

Ralph Kenneth Emery, age 79 of the New Salem Community in Union County, NC went to his heavenly home on February 10th, 2015. Mr. Emery was the son of Roy Thomas and Betty Emery of Chattanooga, Tennessee who preceded him in death.

Ken was a well-liked, much loved gentle giant of a person. He loved life and his family.

Former employment includes Charlotte Aircraft Corporation and the Gulf Oil Corporation.

In 1973, Ken and his wife Carolyn opened the Village Nursery in Mint Hill, NC. Ken enjoyed his work with growing plants, his employees and his customers.

Ken is a veteran of the US Air Force – having served during the Korean Conflict building radar stations around the North Pole. Ken was a charter member of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. Ken was also the Scout Master for seven years. He is famously remembered by the Scouts for the 50 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail.

Ken and Carolyn moved to the New Salem area in 2001 having lived in the Hickory Grove area of Charlotte for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Wallace Emery of 59 years; daughter, Janet Hunter (David); son, Russell Emery (Robin); grandchildren, Kenny Emery (Tessa), Emily Hunter, Keith Emery (Emily), Kimberly McGee (Harrison), Kara, Kylie, Kassidy and Kathryn Emery; great grandchildren, Maddox Emery and

Easton Emery; sister, Evelyn Emery Farmer (Bill); brothers-in-law, AW Luckett, Hugh Hartline and Louis Andros; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Emery and Donna Wallace Andros; first cousins, Jim Livingston and Shirley Ray and many precious nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Visitation will be held from ten o’clock in the morning until service time.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Emery will begin at eleven thirty in the morning on Saturday, the 14th of February, 2015 in the Family Life Center at Euto Baptist Church (New Salem), 6019 Highway 205, Marshville, NC 28103. The burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
