Ruby Virginia Moore King

Born in Hoffman in Richmond County, North Carolina on December 6, 1934, Ruby was the daughter of the late Horace Wilson Moore Sr. and Ethel Cameron Moore of Rockingham, NC. She was a 1952 graduate of Rockingham High School and married Paul Samuel King of Charlotte in 1958. She was a devoted wife and mother who spent several years as a homemaker before serving as a rural mail carrier for Matthews Post Office for 20 years. Ruby loved cooking and preparing meals. Her happiest moments were when she could prepare a meal and have her family and friends around her kitchen table.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Michelle Phillips and grandson, Chadwick Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Paul King; her four children, Renee Rodgers of Mineral Springs, NC, Brenda Springs (Gordon), Edward King (Terri), and Gail Burris (Aaron), all of Monroe, NC; her step-children, Sandra Rowell (Jerry) of Indian Trail, NC, and Myra Davis (Dexter) of Mebane, NC. She was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, David Laney Jr (Jackie) of Weatherford, OK, Matthew Rodgers of Mineral Springs, NC, Amber Helms (Brian), Jeannie Sawyer (Brandon), Ashlyne Anderson (Phil) Chandler Burris, Caleb King, Hunter King, all of Monroe, NC; and seven great-grandchildren. Her step-grandchildren are Danny Davis (Michelle) of Danbury, CT, Stephanie Britt of Leland, NC, and Jennifer Rowell of Indian Trail, NC. Also surviving are her sister, Doris Moore McIntyre, and brother, Horace Wilson Moore, Jr., both of Rockingham, NC. After retirement, Ruby loved and cared for Katie Austin of Marshville, NC, until she started school.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will immediately follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe.
