Sidney Smith Bruce

Sidney graduated from Polk County High School and then received an Associate Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from CPCC. He was married to Kathy Bruce on August 22, 1965, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August.

Sidney worked in Security Dispatch for Carolinas Medical Center prior to becoming disabled. He had a passion for dogs, reading, Panthers football, and telling jokes to always make people laugh.

Sidney was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served his country for eight years, which included a Tour of Duty in Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam, he served as a combat photographer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Shirley Bruce of Greer, SC and Elizabeth (Boo) Bruce of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Sydney, Katlin, Camryn and Daniel of Greer, SC; and brother, Michael Bruce of San Antonio, TX.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 9:00 am prior to the Memorial Service at 10:00 am at Carmel Baptist Church, in the Uptown Auditorium, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road, Matthews, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carmel Baptist Church Youth Building Fund.
