Stephen Roderick Beard, our beloved son, grandson, and brother, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020. Born on December 4, 1992 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Stephen was a graduate of Hickory Grove Christian School, attended college at UNCC and Western Carolina, and was a member at Christ Covenant Church.
Growing up, Stephen was an amazing child with a big smile and an easy going nature. Stephen started playing baseball at the age of five, and continued to love and play the sport until he graduated high school. Stephen was bright, witty, and had a wonderful sense of humor, always making those around him laugh with his silly antics. As a young child, Stephen and his younger sister Olivia were homeschooled. Together, they would share many fond memories playing games, trips to Carowinds, and laughing over movies. One of Olivia’s fondest memories was when she would sleep in Stephen’s bunk bed, laughing and giggling until they fell asleep. Once Jacob and Noah were born, Stephen instantly became the big brother they would grow up to love and admire. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers by playing video games and hanging out together. Stephen also helped coach Jacob’s t-ball team.
Stephen loved the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves. We have fond memories of watching and attending games with him. Stephen enjoyed playing disc golf and video games. He was a hard worker, often working as a bartender or in the food service. Stephen was well liked by all that knew him with his infectious smile and caring nature. Recently, Stephen was blessed to have been in a relationship with Amber Pondo.
Even though Stephen struggled during the past several years with addiction and depression, he continued to work hard and fight for a better life. We were so thankful for all the time we were able to spend with him in recent years. We have many precious memories that will live in our hearts forever. We were so proud of the sweet, kind and compassionate person Stephen was. He was a loving brother and son. We were blessed to have him in our lives. We could not be more thankful knowing that he is at peace in his eternal home, with our Heavenly Father.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
Survivors include his parents, Roderick and Julie Beard; a sister, Olivia Beard; brothers, Jacob and Noah Beard; a great grandmother, Mary Massey; grandparents, Carole Beard, Roddy and Laverne Beard, Stephen and Jennine Eubanks; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
