Anne is survived by her children, Debbie, Ed, Elaine and Barbara; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gurson "Gus" Levitt.
Born Feb 5, 1920 in Syracuse NY but moved to LA within the year
Parents Becky and Frank Weinstein; Frank was one of the first plumbers in LA. They had 3 children, and Anne was the youngest.
She played the violin in the Junior Philharmonic here in L.A. She attended Manual Arts High School, and was the top in stenography, taking dictation at 140 wpm and was the fastest typist at 110 wpm.
Married at the age of 20 (in 1940) to Gus Levitt – he passed away in 2005. He was a bus driver for almost 40 years, first starting out driving the Pacific Red Car and then for MTA.
They had four children: Barbara, Elaine, Ed and the youngest Debbie, who was born 10 years after Ed so basically Anne had 2 families – 3 children then 1. Their grandkids numbered 8, with 2 add-ons following Debbie’s marriage.
Anne worked for 22 years in customer service for a mail order business called Sunset House. She composed correspondence responding to complaints. She always said everyone came to her for help (and candy!) Anne retired in 1978.
Anne loved going to Las Vegas, playing in Pan Tournaments (a card game like gin rummy) , always coming out a winner (or at least even)! She also loved playing Blackjack – a real card shark!
Interests
Anne loved watching sports, especially Laker basketball, Dodger baseball, Horseracing and Golf, but truly enjoyed watching most sports. Another favourite was figure skating – she would say it was “soothing to watch them skate.”
Her main love was music. She sang and was a very good dancer. She loved music “with a beat.” Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Buble and Harry Connick were a few crooners she adored. Always played a Michael Buble CD for her while she ate her breakfast. And, of course, what Saturday night would not be complete without a dose of Lawrence Welk on PBS. She knew the background of each person on that show… “Oh, he was married to that one’s daughter” could often be heard while watching the show.
A true socialite! Absolutely loved chatting to people and within 10-15 minutes she would know everything about their life.
As stated, Anne loved playing cards, with many a night spent at Debbie’s playing blackjack and trying to teach her son-in-law all her devious strategies!
Favorite TV: Steve Harvey, Family Feud, Ellen, Queen Latifa, all game shows and sports
