Audrey Sagerman passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, January 13. She was also 13 days shy of her 85th birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY she grew up in a house of modest means with her parents Sam and Lee and brother Leonard who was 11 years her junior. She loved going to the opera with her Dad as a kid, and her Mom was an air-raid captain during WWII. She was a PE and history teacher, earned her MFCC license and ultimately obtained her PhD. She sang and played the guitar and accordion. She was awarded a scholarship in archery to attend university. She was very practical and organized, determined and strong willed. She also loved to laugh and enjoyed her book and movie groups. She loved the outdoors, had an artsy bent and in the 70s was a quasi-hippie and all that went with it. One of her favorite songs was John Lennon’s “Woman,” and she could not get enough black licorice to eat. She was a big worrier from everything from her kids’ success to getting every detail for a party just so, but she is at peace now and will no longer have worries.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, tributes may be made in her name to Hadassah at hadassah.org.
