Elaine Lita Bluebond died peacefully at her Tarzana, California, home at the age of 93 on Saturday, April 9, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Marvin Bluebond, her daughter, Los Angeles bankruptcy judge Sheri Bluebond, her son-in-law Brad Smith, her grandchildren Jennifer Smith Marr, Geoffrey Smith and Gwendolyn Smith, and her great-grandchildren Harrison, Hardy, Henry and Hudson Marr. She was predeceased by her older daughter, Wendy Hiller Bluebond, who was killed in a car accident in 1979.
Elaine was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1929 and moved to Hollywood, California, with her parents Rose and Harry Fisher and her sister Marilyn and attended Ramona Elementary School, Le Conte Junior High and Hollywood High School, from which she graduated a semester early in 1945 as an accomplished pianist. At 14, while at a dance, she met another Hollywood High School student, Marvin Bluebond, who was then 16, and the two became life-long sweethearts and dance partners.
The two moved to San Francisco after they married in 1948 but returned to Los Angeles and moved to the San Fernando Valley before the birth of their first daughter in 1957. Following the birth of their second daughter, they moved to Woodland Hills, California, to a house that they lived in for more than 55 years. In the 1970s, Elaine returned to the workforce to become Marvin’s business partner in an independent insurance agency, selling life, health, auto and property and casualty insurance.
Elaine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an avid dancer, and an animal lover to the core. She enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, taking long walks with her dogs, attending the theatre and spending time with friends and loved ones. She was always perfectly coifed, smartly dressed and kind and considerate to all who knew her. She was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She will be sorely missed by her husband, family and friends.
Rabbi Dara Frimmer of Temple Isaiah in Los Angeles will officiate at a memorial service for Elaine at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Groman Eden Mortuary in Mission Hills, California. Donations may be made in her honor at ASPCA.org or at TempleIsaiah.com. Acknowledgments and condolences should be directed to her daughter Sheri at [email protected].
