Irene Weller, 94, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016. She was born November 26, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York to Max and Gussie Doctorow. Irene was a natural born entertainer and shined when she was the center of attention. She became a professional singer around the age of 10 and her sister, Florence became her chaperone. The two travelled around the U.S., even working with the USO during WWII. Irene continued her career as a singer until 1952. About six years later she began selling World Book Encyclopedia's and was very successful. Irene rose through the ranks quickly to become a Division Manager, supervising over 200 people. She eventually retired, but worked on and off until her eighties.
Irene never gave up her love of music and entertainment. She loved to listen to Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand, and Frank Sinatra. She also enjoyed travelling, going out to dinner and a movie, playing bridge and she never passed up a good bargain!
While singing, Irene met her first husband, Paul Weller at the Pussycat in Hollywood. He was so charming that it was love at first sight and they married 2 weeks later. Many years later, Irene met her second husband, Al Miller. Al and Irene hit it off and spent 4 happy years together. After Al’s passing, Irene was heartbroken. Harold came along a few years after and was a wonderful companion for the last years of her life.
Irene is survived by her 2 loving daughters, Deborah and Sherry Weller; nephews, Bob, Steve and Gavriel Weinberg and Gilbert Doctorow, niece, Grace Doctorow; and numerous relatives from her first husband, Paul Weller.
Funeral services for Irene will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 2:00pm, at Groman Eden Mortuary, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, CA 91345. Burial will follow at Eden Memorial Park.
