Lanny Zwieg passed away in Carlsbad, California at the age of 90.
She leaves four loving children, Evelyn (David) Shnier, David Zweig, Peggy (Brad) Hanne, Dr. Milton (Kristina) Zweig, ten grandchildren- Esther (Simcha) Mowery, Sholom (Ziba) Kaufman, Avrohom (Zisi) Kaufman, Elana (David) Bondy, Jacqueline Zweig, Adam Zweig, Kristi Butterworth, Cassidy Butterworth, Matthew Zweig and Leah Zweig. She was adored by 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was born in Berlin, Germany in 1930. She fled with her parents to Belgium where her father was taken to Auschwitz and murdered. She lived for a while as a non-Jewish girl and attended a Catholic school under a false name. She spent the remainder of the war with her mother in hiding. As soon as it was possible, they emigrated to Colombia, South America.
She met her husband (of 67 years), Arnold Zweig in Colombia and got engaged a week after they met. After Evelyn was born, they moved to Los Angeles where they lived until 2007 before moving to Carlsbad.
Lanny was the classic homemaker and worked hard to care for four kids while maintaining an immaculate home and taking care of Arnold. She enjoyed learning about interior decorating and used her knowledge to make a beautiful home. She spoke German, English, Spanish and French and had a lovely singing voice. She would sing very loudly; she said it helped her cope when things got too stressful. She and Arnold enjoyed traveling together, especially cruises and they made friends wherever they went. Oma will be missed.
Lanny was predeceased by her parents, Aaron Lehman and Hildegard Lehman.
