Loretta was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 29, 1937. At the age of 3 her father, Morris Rich, died, and she moved to Los Angeles, California along with her mother Esther Rich, and her younger brother David. Loretta grew up in the Western Avenue district in L.A., and later moved to the Fairfax District. She attended Fairfax High School and was active in her B’nai B’rith Girls (BBG) teen group. On May 8, 1953, while in the 10th grade at Fairfax, Loretta met the soon-to-be love of her life, Norton Karno. After high school Loretta attended Los Angeles City College and then worked in an accounting firm. She and Norton were married on June 18th, 1960 at Temple Beth Am in Beverly Hills. Over the following 10 years Loretta and Norton had 3 children, Stephanie (Cory), Valerie (Eric), and Mitchell (Sarah). Loretta dedicated herself to raising her children, instilling in them values of family, hard work, respect, and kindness. She loved travelling and did so extensively with her family. She was particularly drawn to places with serene natural beauty and wildlife. Loretta loved to cook, organize family gatherings, take long walks, needlepoint, and read. As her family grew, Loretta doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and remained very involved in their lives. She is survived by her husband, Norton, her 3 children, her 7 grandchildren, (Jessica (Skylar), Kayla, Emily, Briana, Abby, Theodore, and Everett) and her 2 great-grandchildren (Zara and Mia). She lived a joyous life, defined by love and family. Her kind and generous spirit will be enormously missed.
