
Dr. Richard Marc Luros, aged 74, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017, at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He courageously fought mesothelioma for more than six years. Richard was born on January 1, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to Milton and Beatrice (née Bessin) Luros, and was the eldest of two children. Richard attended Reseda High School, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, and earned his Doctor of Medicine at Wayne State University. He also earned a master's in public health at UCLA. After serving in the US Navy, he built a comprehensive, successful career in medicine as a gastroenterologist. He then became a Qualified Medical Examiner and an Agreed Medical Examiner in worker's compensation, caring for patients throughout California. In addition to professional pursuits, he enjoyed golfing and playing his ukulele.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Levin; his brother, Michael; and his children and their spouses, Hilary and Matt Ocko, Jodi and Robbie Groff, Jason and Mary Luros, and Stephanie Luros-Gilbert and Dr. Joyce Gilbert; as well as his grandchildren, Daniel and Madeline Ocko, Estee and Marlie Groff, and Beatrix Luros.
Private funeral; services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 11 am, in the Groman Eden Chapel of Groman Eden Mortuary. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Mark Blazer, and will conclude graveside, in Eden Memorial Park.
