
She is survived by her daughter Susan Gross Kurtzman, her grandson Eli Michael Kurtzman, her brother Arthur Winter and his wife Leah, as well as many nieces, nephews and their children.
Sylvia was born in Detroit, MI. She attended Wayne State University, where she met her husband, Irving. They moved to Los Angeles in 1946 to start a family when Irving returned from his service in WWII. Sylvia had a daughter, Susie and a son, Larry, who passed away April 1, 1998
For 18 years, Sylvia taught special education at Birmingham High School in the Valley. After she retired, she was an active volunteer at Jewish Family Services and other charitable organizations.
She travelled extensively with her family and spoke three languages, including Yiddish. She shared her love of classical music and jazz with her siblings and their spouses who all traveled together on Elder Hostels.
Sylvia will be remembered for her dedication to volunteer work, her intelligence and her sharp wit.
