Billy C. Furr

Billy Cardell Furr, age 83, of Monroe, passed away on March 15, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 27, 1931 in Mecklenburg County to the late Luther Cardell and Leona Honeycutt Furr. He was married to Betty Lisk Furr, the love of his life, for 64 years and they had three beloved children.

Billy was a carpenter, by trade, for over 40 years. He served the Lord by using this talent to assist in building and remodeling his church and giving back to the community. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two daughters, Barbara Ann Thornburg and Deborah Jean Furr; and his grandson, Matthew Shane Thornburg.

Billy is survived by his wife, Betty Lisk Furr; son, Jeffrey Cardell Furr and wife, Susan Myers Furr; grandchildren, Norris Eugene Thornburg Jr., Madison Furr Eubanks and husband Caleb Eubanks, Jesse Cardell, Maggie Jean, Sammie Jo, and Jase Colton Furr; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Thornburg and Aspen Blair Eubanks; sister, Jane Furr Whiteside and brother, Bob Furr.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Mr. Furr’s funeral service will be Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church, Monroe with burial to follow in Lucy Helms Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Union County.
