Born in Monroe, North Carolina, Corinne grew up in Wingate, NC. She attended Meredith College; a school she remained deeply devoted to throughout her life. Education always mattered to her—learning, growing, and giving back were themes she carried with her.
In her younger years, she worked as a flight attendant, suiting her adventurous spirit. Then as a supportive Air Force wife and mother, she raised toddlers while moving from base to base, creating a loving and stable home wherever they were stationed. In her 40s, she returned to school to pursue her passion for health and wellness, earning a master’s degree in nutrition. She went on to serve as a Chief Dietitian at a Chicago area hospital —proof to all of us that it’s never too late to follow a calling.
A true artist at heart, Corinne expressed her creativity in many forms. She sewed clothing as a homemaker, was a passionate photographer, and created beautiful stained-glass lamps and works of art. She loved music and singing, participating in several choirs over the years. She and Jim enjoyed amazing adventures, traveling the world together- one of her favorite destinations was Egypt, among others. She also loved being active, whether it was tennis or golf, and she approached those, like everything else, with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit.
A devoted follower of Christ, Corinne lived her life with faith and gratitude. She often reminded her family that they were incredibly blessed, a belief she carried with humility and joy. She was a loving wife and mother, known for her quick wit, sharp humor, and generous spirit. She shared a devoted marriage of 67 years with her husband Jim and took immense pride in raising four beautiful daughters.
She is survived by her husband, James Howey; her daughters, Karen Guthrie (Charlie), Kimberly Lee (Bob), and Lauren Howey (partner, John); eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Edwin and Eugene, and her beloved daughter Lisa.
We will gather to celebrate her life on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, North Carolina. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
