David Curtis McGuirt, 77, of Monroe went home to be with his Lord on February 7, 2019. Born and raised in Union County, David was an active public servant. He was a graduate of Guilford College as well as the School of Banking of the South Louisiana State University and the National Commercial Lending School with the American Bankers Association. David began his banking career with United Carolina Bank, now BB&T. He left after 21 years of service to help form Bank of Union, now First Charter, where he served as Executive Vice President. In 1998, he again joined a group of local investors to help start Trinity Bank as Chief Executive Officer and Corporate Secretary and at Citizens South as Executive Vice President, Consultant and Director. He retired from Citizens South in 2007.
Throughout his banking career, he served on numerous local boards and was active with many civic associations including Kiwanis, Monroe Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Monroe Association and Hospice of Union County. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, where he served as Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School teacher and the Board of Trustees. David is predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Ethel McGuirt; siblings, Nay McGuirt, Pat Connell and Margaret Williamson. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Janet Little McGuirt; children, Amy (Joe) Pate, Beth (Byron) Willis, Jeff (Susan) Autry and Kristy (Parker) Derrick and grandchildren, Abby, Caroline, Bailey, Reagan, Paxton, Weston and Everly. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 W. Morrow Street on Monday, February 11 from 1:00 pm until 2:15 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the church at 2:30 pm immediately followed by burial at Lakeland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Monroe or Hospice of Union County.
