She was born in Union County on April 30, 1947, daughter of the late Pete and Gladys Rape. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Johnny Sweatt; her daughter, Angela Jane Sweatt and by her brother, Parley Rape.
She is survived by her son, Robert Sweatt (Rhonda); her daughter, Melissa Bullard (Mike); her grandchildren, Jonathan Sweatt (Melissa), Miranda Collins (Daniel), Eric Bullard (Kye), Kevin Sweatt (Kacey) and Steven Sweatt (Brittany); eleven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Barbara Plyler (Bill), Katherine Arant (Billy Ray), Patsy Mangum (Ronnie), Vickie Greene, Lori Kopplin and Lisa Baucom; and by her brothers, Dennis Rape (Janet) and Joe Rape (Peggy).
The family has requested open hours for friends to come sign the register book and pay their respects from 11:00am until 5:00pm Sunday January 10, 2021 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Due to CDC Guidelines, the family will not be present for visitation hours so that the community can come at their leisure. Please practice social distancing and wear masks if physically able.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edith Sweatt will begin at 2:00pm Monday, January 11, 2021 in McEwen Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Lanes Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 7608 Landsford Road, Monroe, NC 28112.
