George William Hilton

Mr. George William Hilton, age 95, of Monroe, passed away (Tuesday, April 20, 2010) at CMC-Union Hospital in Monroe.

Mr. Hilton was born July 31,1914 in Union County, N.C., a son of the late Mr. Wiley Hilton and the late Mrs. Liza Jane Strawn Hilton, he was also preceded in death by a Great-Granddaughter: Samantha Jordon Price and his siblings: Sam Hilton, Curtis Hilton, Janie Cauthen, Wilma Walton, Mary Broome and Evelyn Helms.

Mr. Hilton retired from Celanese Fibers Company, Celriver Plant in Rock Hill, S.C. after 25 years of service.

In his retirement his worked on antique clocks and furniture and was commonly known as “The Clock Man” of Monroe.

He was a devoted family man, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved gardening, his church family, and spending time with family, and taking care of his wife.

Survivors include his wife of almost 77 years, Gladys Leona Pope Hilton, of the home, (one) Daughter: Josephine Secrest and husband, Buddy of Monroe.

(Five) Grandchildren: Robin Greene (Stuart) of Monroe, Pam Secrest of Belmont, N.C., Terica McCain (Bill) of Waxhaw, N.C., Tim Secrest (Wendy) and Lisa Hatley (Max) both of Monroe, N.C.,

(Six) Great-Grandchildren: Kisha Tarlton of Marshville, N.C., Nicole Mullis, Brandon Price, Justin Price, Meggan Love and Josh Secrest all of Monroe, N.C.

(Three) Great-Great-Grandchildren: Keniston Saylor Mullis, Brice Everette Mullis and Madison Rivers Price all of Monroe

(Two) Sisters: Ethel Helms of Monroe N.C. and Christine Ross of Marshville, N.C., and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Thursday night (April 22, 2010) from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at New Salem Baptist Church, 2915 Goldmine Road, Monroe, N.C.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. (Friday, April 23, 2010) at New Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. Doug Rumley, officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite #200, Charlotte, N.C. 28210.
