Mr. George Wilkerson

Mr. George Wilkerson, age 78, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016. He was born in Dillon County, SC on April 20, 1938 the son of the late Johnny Gaston and Ina Wilkerson. He was a Christian who loved his Lord, his family, and his friends. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon, president of his Sunday school class, and several committees. He also served as church custodian for several years. He was recently awarded the Oak Grove Baptist Church Man After God’s Own Heart award for his gifts and talents as a master carpenter in serving God and others, for constantly displaying wisdom and patience in serving as a leader in God’s house, for standing firm for traditional values and principles of fairness, and for his loving, humble, common sense approach to everyone and every situation. He enjoyed wood working projects, gardening, fishing, and a good deal at a flea market.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Honeycutt Wilkerson of the home; two sons, Rick Wilkerson and wife Terry of Monroe, and Dale Wilkerson and wife Kim of Lancaster, SC; one daughter, Cathy NeSmith and husband Doug of Monroe. His grandchildren, Chris Wilkerson, Abby Griffin, Stephanie Wilkerson, and Seth Wilkerson were his pride and joy.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Tuesday evening July 26, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4013 New Town Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Wilkerson will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday July 27, 2016 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Baptist Men’s Group at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4013 New Town Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173.
