Our Mother Gertrude Cox Starnes, 90, passed away October 20, 2010 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Gertrude was born in Union County, February 5, 1920 to Rufus T. and Lula Pigg Cox, she was preceded in death by her husband John Wesley Starnes who died in 1985, a daughter Diane Starnes who died in 1992, brothers Leo, Neil and Warren Cox and a sister Evelyn C. Branham. Survivors include a daughter: Johnnie S. Everhardt and husband Jack of Charlotte, N.C. two sons: Thomas H. Starnes of Monroe N.C., Richard E. Starnes and wife Kathy of Waxhaw N.C., Grandsons: Jeffrey Everhardt and wife Susan, Jason Everhardt and wife Tameka, Lucus Starnes and wife Ashley, Darick Starnes and wife Erin and four great grandchildren, two sisters: Georgia Helms and Helen Starnes both of Monroe N.C., one brother: Wade Cox and wife Julia of Charlotte N.C., Sisters-in-law: Mildred Cox, Louise Cox, Lib Cox and Tomasine Medlin, many nieces and nephews. Gertrude was a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, sister and aunt, a Homemaker and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Howard Flemming officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery beside her husband. Visitation will begin at 2:00 until 3:45 in the church fellowship hall. The family expresses thanks to the staff of Lake Park Nursing Home.
