

Herb proudly served his country in the US Air Force as a Tech Sgt., Gunner and Radio Operator on a B-17. He was shot down over Berlin and spent over a year as a prisoner of war. Herb was a participant of the Black March during the final stages of WWII. Upon his return to the states, he married his love, Annetta May Kell on July 18, 1945. After attending Cohn Electrical School in Chicago, he worked at Ross Gear and later started his own business, Cooper Motorola and Television. In 1963, Herb was hired by Hydreco and moved to Portage, Michigan. He relocated to Charlotte in 1973, working for Livingston & Haven. Herb was actively involved at Hopewell Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, member of the Pastoral Search Committee and a Gideon. He was also involved with the American Legion. He was an independent yet wise and humble man that loved his family, church and country.
Herb is predeceased by Annetta, his wife of 42 years; his second blessing from God, Virginia Williams Cooper, wife of 14 years and his brother, Keith Cooper. He is survived by his two sons, Bill (Kathy) Cooper and Greg (Cheryl) Cooper; grandsons, Andy (Becky) Cooper and Corey Cooper and his sister, Barbara Brown.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Hopewell Baptist Church, Legacy Campus, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe. The funeral service will be at 3:00pm followed by burial at the church cemetery. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is honored to serve the Cooper family.
