

Born June 14, 1945, Jerry was a lifelong Union County resident. He enlisted in the United States Army where he did a tour of Korea. Upon his discharge, Jerry worked for several years before retiring as a dispatcher for the Monroe City Police. Jerry had many loves and enjoyments in his life including playing the guitar and riding his lawnmower. He also had a love for cats and enjoyed spending time with them with his most special being Sylvester.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Flossie Cook Broome. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Newton; sisters, Doris Simpson of Unionville, NC and Margaret Helms of Wingate, NC; and his best friend from childhood, Kenneth Baker.
There will be an open viewing at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, NC, on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A graveside service with military honors will then be held later that afternoon at 3:00 pm at Lakeland Memorial Park, located at 1901 Lancaster Avenue, with Pastor Mark Keeter presiding.
