His battle with Glioblastoma, a deadly brain cancer, was fought with quiet courage, facing each battle with hope and dignity. Joe’s life was a testament to honor, bravery, and family. Joe joined the Catholic faith over 30 years ago and he so loved attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion.
Joe was born to the late Joseph and Connie Medina in French Camp, California. He loved to share stories about floating down the river and enjoying the outdoors during his childhood. He spent 10 years as a proud member of the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. After the military, he dedicated 30 years as a retail store manager for various companies, always leading by example.
His personal passions were fishing, hunting, and motorcycle riding and he especially loved sharing these with his children. Each of his hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and love of life.
Left to carry on his legacy are Barbara, his wife and best friend of 35 years; and his precious children, Joseph (Traci), John, Jessica, and Denise. He also leaves behind many beloved family members spanning from Kentucky to California. His unconditional love for his family and friends withstood time and distance and he cherished every single one.
As we mourn the loss of Joe, we also celebrate a well-lived life, filled with love, service, and a pursuit of happiness. His memory will be enshrined in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends an invitation to join in commemorating Joe’s life, a journey marked with strength, integrity, and the joy he found in every day, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at McEwen Funeral Home, located at 204 S Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, located at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mcewenmonroechapel.com for the Medina family.
May he rest in peace, as we hold dear the memories he has left behind.
“Allow the light and the healing presence of Christ to shine brightly through your lives. In that way, all those who come in contact with you will discover the loving kindness of God.”
— St. Pope John Paul II
