Joyce was born on April 13th, 1940 in Waxhaw, NC to the late Clifford and Eva Stikeleather and was the oldest of six children (Joyce, Carolyn, Thelma, CJ, Ernest Ray, and Ken). Joyce married the late William “Bill” Price on September 24th, 1961, and they had three children. She excelled in school and participated in various activities including being selected as Manager of the high school basketball team. After graduating high school, she attended Cosmetology School and became a Beautician, working at Belk’s Beauty Salon in Monroe and another salon in Mineral Springs. She contributed to the local Weddington Community as a Sunday School Teacher, a Substitute Teacher at the old Weddington Elementary School, and as Polling Volunteer for Union County. Joyce was the consummate caregiver, always helping family and anyone else that needed assistance, from preparing food for a sick neighbor, taking care of elderly in the community, or just sitting and talking, always with a smile, a hug, and an occasional, “Well, I S’wanee”. You always felt better after talking with her and getting one of her hugs.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Clifford John Stikeleather; her mother, Eva Mae Stikeleather; infant brother, Ernest Ray; and her husband of 60 years, William McSwain Price. She also leaves behind her children, William Clifford (Rima) Price, Tracey Price Thompson, Fred (Jessica) Price; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Carolyn; sister, Thelma (Bruce); her brother, CJ (Lynn); and brother, Kenneth (John); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a multitude of “adopted” kids from all walks of life during her travels. She will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina.
