

Ken was born on March 31st, 1939, to the late R.C. and Louise Austin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anne Austin and his daughter, Renee Hottle (Rob) of Monroe. He found immense joy in his role as “Poppy” to his granddaughter, Anna Hottle, of Charlotte. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry Austin of Monroe, Phyllis Baucom (Keith) of Alachua, Florida, Deloris Croxton (Tom) of Monroe, and Karen Carpenter of Peachland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ken graduated from Unionville High School in 1957 and went on to serve in the Army National Guard until 1963. He later built a career in real estate, owning Heritage Realty until his retirement in 2015. He was an active member of both the Sertoma Club and the Kiwanis Club, serving as president of both organizations. He was also a member of the Union County Board of Realtors, where he served as president and was named Realtor of the Year in 1989. Ken dedicated his life to his church, Union Grove Primitive Baptist, where he served as a deacon until his passing.
Ken found great joy in spending time with his daughter, Renee, at the library, where he made many new friends. He especially enjoyed helping her carry in her books and felt truly at home in that warm and welcoming environment. He also treasured time spent golfing with his nephews, creating many fond memories on the course.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm on Sunday, April 26th at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3619 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110. The funeral service will follow at
5:00 pm officiated by Elder Ronnie Loudermilk. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
