Marion worked for A. Lynn Thomas Company from 1947 until he retired in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army starting in 1944 and then the Army Reserves. Among his many volunteer services were the American Red Cross, Loaves & Fishes and United Way of the Carolinas. He also received a Governor’s Award in 1987 for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Leota Lynn Martin, and son, Steven Franklin Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Ellington, and her spouse, Mark Ellington. Two brothers, Alton Martin and spouse Patsy, and Lee Martin.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3619 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, N.C. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
