

Mr. M. Ray Purser, 83, of Monroe N.C. passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was a devoted family man, loving husband, father and grandfather. Ray was born December 17, 1926 son of the late Martin and Ola Baucom Martin, he was also preceded in death by siblings: Billy Martin Purser, Clay Purser, and Vernessa McMillian. Mr. Purser retired after being employed by Kroehler MFG company and Pennsylvania House Furniture after 35 plus years and was self employed as a water treatment representative for both Lindsey and Sears water softeners. In his retirement he loved gardening, his church family, and spending time with friends. Ray was a very positive example of how to live your life to all that knew him. He will forever be missed. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Ann Purser, his children; Mike Purser and wife Connie of New Salem N.C., Cynthia Fowler and husband Mike of Monroe N.C., Tim Purser of San Antonio Texas, Angela Tetrick and husband Dave of Monroe N.C. nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters: Christine Baucom of New Salem N.C., Betty Jo Thomas of Peachland N.C., brother; Pliney Purser of New Salem N.C., and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Newell Helms, Larry Austin and Jared Smith officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given Mr. Purser by Dr. Gregory Browse and Staff and Hospice of Union County.
