

He was born on December 19, 1935, to the late Henry Lee and Etta Mae Polk.
Richard was a Union County native who graduated from Wesley Chapel High School. He was well known for his musical talent, especially when it came to playing the guitar. He loved his family very much and was extremely devoted to his wife, Linda, as well as his children. He was always affectionately known as the “cool dad” in the neighborhood. Richard also served honorably in the National Guard. Along with his parents,
Richard is preceded in death by his brothers, Keith, Max, and Terry; and sisters, Margie and Annie. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Polk; children, Rick Polk, Rhonda Robson, and Robin Helms; sister, Joyce Polk; grandchildren, Dylan Helms, Casey Helms, Megan Vaughn, Candice Robson, and Amanda Robson; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:00 am at Newell Family Cemetery, located at 6403 Waxhaw Hwy in Mineral Springs, North Carolina with Pastor Mike Helms officiating.
