

Mr. Stanley Howard Edwards Sr., 85, lifelong resident of Union County, died peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Howard was born October 14, 1926 in Union County NC, son of the late Sylvester Hassell and Carrie Broom Edwards, he was also preceded in death by four Siblings: Claudus, Carl and Herman Edwards and Pauline Mills. Mr. Edwards served in the Army during World War II after he was drafted while attending Unionville High School. He received an honorary high school diploma from the Union County Board of Education in a special ceremony in 2000. After his military service, he started his civilian career as a farmer, later becoming a machinist, tool designer, business owner and Registered Manufacturing Engineer. He retired in 1989. He was a member of High Hill Primitive Baptist Church since 1944, where he and his future bride were baptized on the same day. He served for many years as a deacon in the church. He was a charter member of the Indian Trail Lions Club and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor bestowed upon members by the Lions Club International Foundation. Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2011 beginning at 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Edwards will be 1:00 PM Saturday, November 26, 2011 at High Hill Primitive Baptist church, with Elder Larry Austin and Elder Newell Helms officiating, interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Willene Williams Edwards, four sons: Stanley Edwards Jr. and wife Debra of Raleigh NC, Joel Edwards of Mocksville NC, Allen Edwards and Wife Susan of Statesville NC, Kevin Edwards and wife Christine Barbeau of Charlotte NC, grandchildren: Jennifer Dwyer, Daniel Edwards, Ben Edwards, Will Edwards, Anna Taylor, Lindsay Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, Megan Wood, Leslie Stoll, Taylor Edwards, Duncan Edwards, Patrick Barbeau and Matthew Barbeau, great-grandchildren: Evan Edwards, Nate & Lindy Taylor, Brothers: Donald Edwards and Wife Louise of Monroe, Johnny Edwards & wife Georgie of Monroe.
