She was born on August 31, 1941, in Manhattan, New York, to Carol Squire Bartasek and was adopted by Hans (Henry) Bartasek.
Sydney graduated from Babylon High School in New York. She shared a significant part of her life with her former husband, Charlie Feddersen, and together they were the proud parents of Steve, Sandy, Lisa, and Gary. Their friendship endured long after their marriage ended.
Throughout her life, Sydney devoted herself to her family. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, raising four children, and managing the responsibilities of the household. Her commitment to providing for her family’s needs was evident in the care and effort she put into creating a home and supporting her children through life’s challenges. Sydney was a member of the Mineral Springs United Methodist Church.
She was an active member of her community, serving as President of Sumter’s Newcomers Club and participating in the Sumter Elks Lodge, B & J Road Show. Sydney was a dedicated advocate for animals, with a special fondness for Great Danes. She held a deep appreciation for the holiday season, particularly Christmas, and enjoyed giving gifts and decorating. She also loved playing card games with friends, especially Bridge. Sydney valued family gatherings, often hosting them in her home, and cherished time spent at the beach, which remained her favorite retreat.
Sydney is survived by her children: Steven Feddersen (Jean), Sandra-Lee Oster (Michael), Lisa Jeffcoat (Christopher), and Gary Feddersen; eight grandchildren: Kayla Shealy, Lisa Coleman, Joshua Feddersen, Christopher Jeffcoat Jr., Sarah Feddersen, Carol Jeffcoat, Hannah-Marie Feddersen, and Edward Oster; and one great-grandchild, Kyle Coleman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Bartasek and Carol Garvin; and siblings Steven and Robert Bartasek.
