Son of the late Dewey and Elizabeth Jacobs and brother to six siblings, he was born in Hamlet, N.C. on May 26, 1941. Jake served six years in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and had a long career as a district manager with BellSouth, from which he retired in 1995. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandi Kutney Jacobs, whom he married on August 31, 1997 and their blended family: Jake’s sons and daughter-in-law Mark, Matthew & Ashley Jacobs; his stepdaughters and their spouses Ami & Caryn Ipapo-Glass and Audrey & Mark Baran; his grandchildren Elijah, Isaiah, Madison, Christopher & Jordan Jacobs and Jaxon & Lennon Ipapo-Glass; and his sister, Helen Barnes of Kannapolis.
Jake was a loving father, husband and community member. He was a devoted Christian and for many years shared his faith through his powerful singing and leadership. He loved spending time with Sandi and their family on beach trips, holidays and casual days over a good meal and great dessert. Always ready with a classic story or signature “Dad joke,” Jake was known for his unique brand of humor and advice. His larger-than-life love, laughter and generosity will live on through his family and wide community.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jacobs will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benton Heights Presbyterian Youth (www.bhpres.org/giving). McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is honored to serve the family of Mr. Jacobs.
