

Wade Haskell Broome, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Wade was born in Monroe on May 27, 1929. He attended Mineral Springs School and worked with his family on the TJW Broome dairy farm. He married Boots Helms in 1949 and he was proud to say that they were married for seventy years before Boots' passing in 2020.
Wade served in the Army during the Korean conflict and he was stationed at the Panama Canal. He earned as associate's degree at Wingate College after he returned from his Army service. He worked as a meter reader with the City of Monroe, beginning in 1950, and retired after thirty years of service with the city in 1980 having attained the position of Assistant City Manager during his tenure. Retirement gave Wade time to pursue interests like small engine repair and to devote to community service which he enjoyed. He was an active member of the Monroe Civitan Club and the Monroe Masonic Lodge #244. He was a loyal and faithful lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Church.
Wade is survived by his brother Donald Broome (Phyllis), son Phillip Broome (Joyce), grandchildren Catherine Gray (Hamilton) and David Broome (Alycia Trapp),and great-grandson Alexander Gray.
A visitation for Wade will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Church, 1712 Carmel Church Road, Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park immediately after the service.
