

He was born on January 25, 1936, to the late William Hoyle and Audrey Jones Pierce. Bunn was a lifelong Union County native who graduated from Marshville High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served 4 years before being honorably discharged. He later worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years before finally retiring. Bunn had many hobbies and interests in his life including playing golf as well as working in the yard and gardening. He also became a Mason in 1965 where he served in all stations.
Along with his parents, Bunn is preceded in death by his late wife, Janis Simpson Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Linda Pierce; son, Bill Pierce; stepdaughter, Kathy Crider (Robert Mills); grandson, Jordan Pierce; step-grandchildren, Brook Ainsworth (Lee), and Jamie Crider (Bayleigh Hildreth); step-great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Cal, and Rachel Ainsworth, and Risden Crider; and sister, Delores Crump (Frank).
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Bunn’s life will be held following the visitation at 2:15 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel with Rev. Frank Crump officiating. Burial with military honors will then be held following the service at Faulks Baptist Church cemetery in Marshville, North Carolina.
