

Bobby Jerry Yates was a proud Military Veteran of 50 years. His life was marked by Honor, Dedication, and a Deep Love for God, Family and Country. After 25 years of Serving in the United States Air Force, he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He continued for the next 25 years serving and supporting the Veterans of the State of Alabama as Chief of Claims for Veteran Affairs. Bobby was deeply patriotic and took immense pride in his service to his country. Veterans Day was always a meaningful and celebrated occasion for him; one he observed with gratitude and honor.
To those fortunate enough to know him, Bobby was far more than his accomplishments. He was fun-loving, dependable, supportive, and deeply caring. He was the kind of man who showed up for the people he loved without hesitation. His steady presence, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty made others feel safe, valued, and loved.
He also loved his Auburn Tigers! Rarely did you see him without an Auburn Shirt on.
Bobby Jerry Yates is survived by his son, Steven Morris Yates (Beverly Landers Yates); daughter, Melody Yates Tucker (Anthony Sha Tucker); brothers, Jimmy Yates, Herbert Yates Jr., and Tommy Yates; four grandchildren, David Yates (Abby), Adam Yates (Alex), Lance Tucker (Amber), and Brittany Bethea (Mark); 12 living great-grandchildren, Harper Yates, Sam Yates, Camilla Yates, Jack Yates, Crawford Yates, Betty Yates, Creed Tucker, Natalie Tucker, Jude Tucker, Micah Bethea, Helen Ann Bethea, and Nora Bethea.
Bobby Jerry Yates is predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Jo Ann Yates; father, Herbert Yates; mother, Athol Reaves; brother, James Yates; sister, Melita Craddock; and great-granddaughter, Hadley Rose Yates.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 29th, 2026, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, Alabama. Service will begin at 9:30.
Following the Graveside Service, Family and Friends are invited to "A Celebration of Life " for Bobby at First Baptist Church, 305 South Perry Street, Montgomery, Alabama, 36104. The visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a service at 11:30 AM.
In Lieu of Flowers, the Yates family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Montgomery Community Ministries, or to Cure SMA (cureSMA.org).
